A registered roofing contractor (RC) may work only in the local jurisdictions where the registration was issued. Both are real licences — just make sure a registered roofer is registered where your house is.

Common questions

Does a roofer need a state licence in Florida?

Yes. Roofing is a licensed trade under Chapter 489, Florida Statutes. A roofer must hold a state certification (CCC, valid statewide) or a registration (RC, valid only where it was issued). A general, building or residential contractor must subcontract roofing unless they also hold a roofing licence — with a narrow exception for shingle roofs on new homes they are building themselves.

What is the difference between CCC and RC?

CCC is a Certified Roofing Contractor, who passed the state exam and may contract anywhere in Florida. RC is a Registered Roofing Contractor, who qualified through a local jurisdiction and may contract only in the jurisdictions where the registration is valid.

What does “board discipline on record” mean?

It means the Construction Industry Licensing Board's published discipline files list at least one final action (or Recovery Fund action) against that licence number since fiscal year 2021-22. We show each entry's date, case number and listed actions exactly as DBPR publishes them. It is a public record, not our opinion — read the details and ask the contractor about it.

Can a roofer offer to pay my insurance deductible?

No. Section 489.147, Florida Statutes, bars contractors from offering a rebate, gift, cash or a deductible waiver in exchange for inspecting your roof or making a roof insurance claim. Contractors who do it face discipline and fines of up to $10,000 per violation.

Why is there no phone number for some roofers?

The state licence file does not include phone numbers. We list the address of record DBPR publishes; roofers who claim their listing can add a phone number and description.

Is this site run by the state?

No. Florida Roofer Check is an independent directory compiled from DBPR's public licence and discipline files. The official lookup is DBPR's Verify a License page at myfloridalicense.com.
